Client: Crowd Mind

Crowdmind Web Application

Crowd Mind is taking an innovative approach to web research. They gather wisdom from the web, your network and the crowd to help you make better decisions. Viget stepped in to reskin the existing product and make a few UX upgrades to help attract more users. Along with design I also handled front-end development, handing off xHTML/CSS templates to the Crowd Mind team for implementation.

Duke Institute for Brain Sciences

The Duke Institute for Brain Sciences (DIBS) came to Viget Labs in need of a redesign and a fullly customized back-end solution. I worked with fellow Viget designer Peyton Crump to create a clean and modern design that showcased their many events and respected faculty members. Along with design I also handled the front-end development.

Mood Boards

A mood board is extremely useful for establishing the aesthetic feel of a web site. It usually fits into the process somewhere after wireframes and before design mockups. Things that can be explored in the mood board include photography style, color palettes, typography, patterns, and the overall look and feel of the site. Soft or hard? Grungy or clean? Dark or light? A rough collage of colors, textures and pictures is all it takes to evoke a specific style or feeling. We use them frequently at Viget Labs so I have a lot of practice creating them - and love the chance to explore creative directions with so much freedom!

Syracuse University Homepage Redesign

Syracuse University is currently undergoing a full redesign, but in the meantime the site desperately needed a facelift. We did not want to confuse our audience over a temporary fix, so I created a fresh design system that did not alter the existing site structure or navigation. The new site features rotating feature stories and dynamic news/events areas. It incorporates SU’s campaign branding and helps to promote the University’s mission of “Scholarship in Action”. It was built using web standards for easier maintenance and better search results. It’s a step in the right direction and will fill the gap until the full redesign is launched.

SU's Focus the Nation

Syracuse University joined thousands of institutions across the nation to bring awareness to global warming. The goal with this campaign was to raise awareness among the student population about the various events happening across campus. With two weeks before the event and a very small budget, the pressure was on. I established a look and feel, then extended it into posters, banners, newspaper ads and a CMS-driven website. The clients were thrilled - their events were very successful and student attendance was high.

Create Your Own SU Snowman Postcard

Each winter Syracuse University sends out a fun holiday e-mail to all alumni, donors, and friends. This year we wanted to do something unique and engaging. Our team designed and built this custom e-card application from scratch. I developed the interface and a storyboard outline of the functionality, working closely with an application developer to produce the final product. We got a record number of responses and online donations, and thousands of cards were sent out. The feedback from alumni and donors was very positive.

Client: e-d-you.com

e-d-you.com homepage design

E-d-you, LLC was a new startup that needed both a brand identity and an online presence. Their goal? Reach out to high school teenagers and their parents - and not just the ivy leaguers. I designed their logo and website, helping them to develop a marketing strategy to get off the ground while staying within their budget. The focus was on a friendly, simple to navigate interface and standards complaint code.

Client: Syracuse University School of Education

Syracuse University School of Education

The Syracuse University School of Ed was about to celebrate it’s centennial year. It’s website was out of date, hard to navigate, and was hurting their enrollment. I designed and architected a site that would highlight SOE’s strengths (such as their outstanding faculty) and reach out to users with multimedia such as videos and slideshows. The site was built on a custom CMS and is currently maintained by an administrative assistant.

Client: Syracuse University Commencement

Syracuse University Commencement

The ladies in charge of SU’s Commencement were in desperate need of a site redesign, but wary of delving into too much technology. My first job was to convince them that a CMS would make life easier (they update often, and on short notice). Then I designed a clean and minimal templated site to house all their information, and helped my web team build this site using WordPress as (free! and easy!) CMS tool. We’ve gotten great feedback from students, parents, and staff about the new site, which is “full version” from Feb - May and a scaled back version from June - Jan . And the ladies? Totally thrilled with their new site.

Client: SU in LA (Alumni House)

SU in LA

Syracuse University established a new West Coast alumni house, and they needed a website to start promoting events and activities in the LA area. I designed a simple, streamlined site that wouldn’t overwhelm the new director (who had plenty to do already!) but would help her reach out to California alumni. Rotating background images feature recognizable LA sights. The site makes use of Flickr and a homegrown CMS to keep maintenance effortless.

Client: KHIZ-TV, Los Angeles

KHIZ-TV Homepage Design

KHIZ-TV is an independent television station in Los Angeles, California. Their web presence needed a boost in order to compete in their market so they went for a full redesign. They’re always willing to try new things - I’ve helped them integrate features such as BrightCove video player integration, a WordPress blog, a YouTube account, and a MySpace page. I also help them send out an e-newsletter using a custom template and Constant Contact.
