Ted Koppel - New York Times Half-Page Ad

This is of many newspaper ads I designed to support and promote Syracuse University’s amazing alumni. This particular ad ran in the New York Times. The design incorporates many of SU’s newly adopted campaign graphics, such as the timeline and rotated seal.

Distinguish Design, General Contractor

Distinguish Design is a local small business specializing in residential construction and remodeling. They were looking to take their marketing collateral to the next level by adopting a logo and brand identity. I produced these concepts and am currently working on a full identity system based on the “faux-bois roofline” concept (bottom right).

SU's Holiday Card

Design concept for SU’s Institutional Advancement group. This silver-foil holiday card features small surprises within the silhouettes, such as Otto (our mascot), campus buildings, and of course a few snowflakes to represent our lake effect blizzards!

Syracuse University valentine

Each year, SU sends a special valentine to all of their alumni couples. Because SU often played a significant role in their relationship (many met on campus), I developed a card that played up the campus connection with SU-specific references. The kiss-cam, for instance, zooms in on couples during home games at the Dome so they can share a kiss in front of the entire sports arena. It was very well received.

Create Your Own SU Snowman Postcard

Each winter Syracuse University sends out a fun holiday e-mail to all alumni, donors, and friends. This year we wanted to do something unique and engaging. Our team designed and built this custom e-card application from scratch. I developed the interface and a storyboard outline of the functionality, working closely with an application developer to produce the final product. We got a record number of responses and online donations, and thousands of cards were sent out. The feedback from alumni and donors was very positive.

SU's Focus the Nation

Syracuse University joined thousands of institutions across the nation to bring awareness to global warming. The goal with this campaign was to raise awareness among the student population about the various events happening across campus. With two weeks before the event and a very small budget, the pressure was on. I established a look and feel, then extended it into posters, banners, newspaper ads and a CMS-driven website. The clients were thrilled - their events were very successful and student attendance was high.

Client: SU Alumni - Homecoming + Reunion

Homecoming Save the Date concept

This year’s Homecoming + Reunion weekend is right around the corner, and we’ve started producing concepts for branding the event. This one features the “+” as an organic background element. Extensions of this concept would use other SU symbols in place of Otto (our mascot). Each extension would feature one key graphic element, the plus signs, and a color from an extended palette.

Syracuse University Homepage Redesign

Syracuse University is currently undergoing a full redesign, but in the meantime the site desperately needed a facelift. We did not want to confuse our audience over a temporary fix, so I created a fresh design system that did not alter the existing site structure or navigation. The new site features rotating feature stories and dynamic news/events areas. It incorporates SU’s campaign branding and helps to promote the University’s mission of “Scholarship in Action”. It was built using web standards for easier maintenance and better search results. It’s a step in the right direction and will fill the gap until the full redesign is launched.
